• A e AN (um/ uma) são usados:
a. antes de substantivos contáveis no singular.
A boy, a house, an orange, an elephant.
b. quando uma pessoa ou coisa é mencionada pela primeira vez.

• A é usado antes de palavras:
a. no singular, iniciadas por consoantes.

b. iniciadas por h quando este for pronunciado.

c. iniciadas por vogais que tem sons de consoantes (ou quando a silaba soa como o you /iú/ em Inglês).

substantivos incontáveis.

O Artigo definido - The definite article – THE
• O artigo definido THE apresenta duas pronúncias na língua inglesa.
Quando aparece antes de uma palavra que inicia-se com um som vogal pronuncia-se /di/ e antes de uma palavra que inicia-se com um som consoante pronuncia-se /de/.
Ex: The boy /de boi/ (=O rapaz)
Ex: The boy /de boi/ (=O rapaz)
Ex: The girl /de guel/ (=A rapariga)
Ex: The apple /di eipel/ (=A maçã )
Ex: The eyes /di ais/ (=Os olhos)
• O artigo definido THE (o, a, os, as) é usado antes de substantivos:
